  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Topping

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp butter melted

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Boil the macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  • Add shredded cheddar and mozzarella to the sauce, stirring until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Mix the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until well combined.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Pour the mac and cheese into the prepared baking dish. Top with breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm as a main dish or side.
