Equipment

  • 1 9-inch round cake pan greased and floured
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 mixing bowl large

Ingredients

Cake Layer

  • 1 store-bought sponge cake or angel food cake cut into cubes

Creamy Filling

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Berry Layer

  • 1 cup strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This step is optional if using a pre-made cake.
  • Cut the store-bought sponge or angel food cake into even cubes. Set aside until ready to assemble the trifle.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gradually add in the sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until the mixture reaches stiff peaks.
  • Wash and dry all berries thoroughly. Hull and slice the strawberries, then mix them with the blueberries and raspberries in a separate bowl.
  • In a trifle dish, start layering with one-third of the cake cubes. Top with one-third of the creamy filling, followed by one-third of the mixed berries. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of creamy filling.
  • Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Before serving, garnish the top of the trifle with additional berries or a sprig of fresh mint for added color and freshness.
  • Serve chilled, using a large spoon to scoop out portions for your guests.
  • Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or a lid to maintain freshness.
